PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device capable of easily notifying a user of information on operation by a simple configuration. SOLUTION: A rear projector of this invention is provided with an optical engine for displaying an image, a loudspeaker, and a control means for controlling these. The control means comprises: an error diagnosis processing part for diagnosing an operational state of the rear projector; an error judging part for judging whether or not an error occurs based on a result of the diagnosis; an output place selection part for judging whether or not the image can be displayed and selecting a loudspeaker as an output destination when it is judged that the image display means is not in a state of being able to display the image; a voice error information acquisition part for acquiring voice error information indicating the detected error from an error information table; and a voice output control part for making the loudspeaker output the voice error information in audio.
