PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of surface treatment for a water-absorbent resin having excellent water absorption characteristics. SOLUTION: The surface treatment method for the water-absorbent resin comprises (a) a mixing process of mixing a 100 pts.wt. of the water- absorbent resin and 0.01-20 pts.wt. of at least one radical polymerization initiator selected from the group consisting of a persulfate, hydrogen peroxide and an azo compound, a radical polymerizable compound and water, to give the water-absorbent resin composition and (b) an irradiation process of irradiating, with an active energy beam, the resultant water-absorbent resin composition obtained by the mixing process and further comprises controlling the surface moisture content of the water-absorbent resin at 3.0 wt.% or over, relative to 100 wt.% of the water-absorbent resin, at any time point during the irradiation process.
