PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the technology of preventing deterioration of image quality caused by a band-like toner image formed on a photoreceptive face for preventing so-called carrier attraction. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, in order that an electrostatic latent image formed in a first area of the photoreceptive face of each photoreceptor, which is charged by a charger, is developed with two-component developer, the first area is located inside a second area where a predetermined potential difference is made by a developing unit. The image forming apparatus includes the intermediate transfer body disposed so as to be brought into contact with the photoreceptive face or separated therefrom and used so that the image developed by the two-component developer is transferred in a predetermined position from the photoreceptive face; and a contact/separation control section that separates the intermediate transfer body from the photoreceptor when the second area of the photoreceptive face except the first area passes through the predetermined transfer position.
