GRAVURE ROLL AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

A novel gravure roll which eliminates the necessity of a photosensitizer, has a surface-reinforcing coating layer which is nontoxic and has no fear of causing pollution at all, and has excellent printing durability; and a process for producing the roll. The gravure roll comprises a plate base, a copper deposit layer formed by plating on a surface of the plate base, and a silicon dioxide coating film formed so as to coat the surface of the copper deposit layer therewith, the silicon dioxide coating film having gravure cells formed therein, wherein the silicon dioxide coating film is formed from a perhydropolysilazane solution.
