PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a higher reproduction output by easily improving the heat discharging performance of a flux guide type GMR head proper as a high-density tape storage reproduction head. SOLUTION: The head is provided with: a flux guide 2 arranged in the center of the reproduction gap G of the sliding surface 1 side with a magnetic recording medium between upper and lower shields 3a and 3b; a GMR element 4 arranged away by a predetermined distance from the flux guide 2 in a direction orthogonal to the sliding surface 1 and in a height position different from the flux guide 2; and a heat sink 11 overlapping the GMR element 4 and arranged in a height position different from that of the GMR element 4.
