<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pattern/color-tone control device and method for a printing machine that enable execution of highly-accurate pattern/color-tone control even when performing varnish coating. <P>SOLUTION: The pattern/color-tone control device for a printing machine is provided with a printing unit, a coating unit for coating a coating agent on the surface of a printing sheet, and an ink supply device 5 provided in the printing unit so as to supply ink to a plate cylinder. The device is provided with a target-color-density setting means 21 for setting a target color density, an actual-color-density measuring means 11 for measuring a color density of the printed printing sheet, and an ink supply amount control means 22 for controlling an ink supply amount on the basis of the target color density set by the target-color-density setting means 21 and the actual color density measured by the actual-color-density measuring means 11.
