FLAG ENCODING METHOD, FLAG DECODING METHOD, AND APPARATUS THEREOF

A flag coding method, a flag decoding method, and an apparatus using the same are provided to effectively code various flags used in a video codec in consideration of their spatial correlation. A group size setting unit sets a group size which is reference when dividing a flag bit string(S11). A bit string dividing unit divides the flag bit string into by the group size(S12). A pattern bit setting unit determines whether the divided beat strings are all 0(S13). When the divided beat strings are all 0, the pattern bit setting unit sets a pattern bit as 1(S16), or otherwise, sets the pattern bit as 1(S14). When the pattern bit is set as 0, a flag coding unit entropy-codes the divided bit strings(S15). It is checked whether the process has been performed on every macroblock of a slice or frame(S17).
