The present invention provides agents for inhibiting the metastasis of ca ncer cells wherein the agent inhibits the biological activity of hCAP18/LL-3 7. In a preferred embodiment, the agent alters the transcription, translatio n and/o binding properties of hCAP18/LL-37. Preferably, the agent is selecte d from th group consisting of short interfering RNA (siRNA) molecules, antis ens oligonucleotides and compounds with binding affmity for hCAP18/LL-37 or it receptor(s). The invention further provides methods for inhibiting the me tastasis of cancer cells in a patient, as well as methods and kits for diagn osing cancer.
