PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent production of thermally deformed ellipsoidal foams in a sponge rubber roller having a sponge layer of continuous foam structure. SOLUTION: A sponge layer containing continuous foam structure is formed by injecting a unvulcanized foamable silicone rubber containing water-absorbing foaming resin around a core metal and subjecting the rubber layer to at least primary and secondary vulcanization, wherein the primary vulcanization is carried out by a fast curing system in a liquid at a temperature of≤100°C for a short period of time of≤80 minutes.
