The extraction device comprises a cylindrical sleeve (20) with an internal diameter greater than the maximum diameter of the screw threads (11). At least one stop part (21) is adjustably secured inside the sleeve and its position can be altered in the sleeve radial direction. During use the device will grip around the worm element to be removed and exert a removal force upon it. At least three tensile bars (22) evenly distributed around the sleeve circumference have their free ends secured to the extendible part of a hydraulic cylinder (24). The free end of the worm shaft (11) is supported against the other working part of the hydraulic cylinder.
