Solar energy gain window has high-translucency outer pane separated from inner double glazing by ventilated air gap

A double-gazed (6) window has a frame (2) with a supplementary outer pane of high-transparency glass (5) separated from the double glazing by an air gap of 10-50 mm. In the summer months indoor air is surrendered to the gap and released to the atmosphere. In the winter months 90 per cent of the solar energy penetrates the outer pane and is absorbed by the outer double glazing pane. This heat is absorbed by cold air flowing into the building.
