PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer having high writing speed to an electronic paper and capable of reducing costs. SOLUTION: The printer has a press plate having conductivity and recessed parts in its printing surface, a pressing part disposed so that a printing base material wherein electrophoresis elements are two-dimensionally arranged is sandwiched by the press plate and the pressing part and having conductivity and a voltage applying device applying a DC voltage between the press plate and the pressing part.
