PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting device which is devised so as to sufficiently cool a light emitting diode 2.

SOLUTION: The light emitting device includes a light emitting diode 2 which has a radiator 8 discharging a heat produced when driving the light emitting diode 2, and has a light emitting surface 2a positioned on an opposite surface of the radiator 8; a substrate 10 where an opening 18 holding a part of the light emitting diode 2 is formed, and the light emitting diode 2 is mounted so that the light emitting surface 2a and its first surface are faced in the same direction; a diffusion member 22 which is located on the second surface of the substrate 10 and diffuses the heat discharged from the radiator 8; and a dielectric 20 located between the substrate 10 and the transmission member 22.
