Method for operating an internal combustion engine with a crankcase comprises a reflection screen arranged in an exhaust gas return line so that reflections of the flowing exhaust gas are produced and fed in the exhaust gas return line to enlarge the pulsation of the exhaust gas. Preferred Features: The reflections lead to a rise of the top pressure and/or to reduce the minimal pressure of the exhaust gas stream. The screen is arranged behind a gas cooler with a fixed screen cross-section.
