A method for providing an SMS(Short Message Service) in a mobile communication network is provided to notify a real subscriber of usage history with respect with origination number authentication and usage number during the SMS, and provide a short message only when the real subscriber corresponding to the origination number allows short message transmission, thereby reducing damage and misuse caused by short message origination number change. If short message request information is received from a first mobile station, short message origination information provided from the first mobile station is analyzed(S200,S202). If the short message origination information provided from the first mobile station is inconsistent with a real number of the first mobile station, SMS(Short Message Service) service processing of the first mobile station is on standby and a user of the short message origination information received from the first mobile station is searched(S204,S208,S210). If there is the user of the short message origination information received from the first mobile station, short message usage contents of the first mobile station is notified to a second mobile station and the second mobile station is inquired whether authenticating short message usage(S212,S214). If not so, a short message service processing standby state is maintained(S206).
