PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new methylene blue analytical method capable of carrying out easily quantitative analysis in a production site for canning or the like, without requiring a special tool and a series of complicated pretreatment operations, and capable of increasing remarkably the number of measurable specimens per day without requiring a skilled technician, by improving a conventional army method of determining quantitatively hydrogen sulfide or sulfide ion generated in retort treatment (high-temperature sterilization treatment) or with the lapse of time, in a food storage metal container in the canning or the like, to develop a new quantitative analytical method with a reduced dispersion of an analytical data, easy to be operated. SOLUTION: An absorption liquid comprising an aqueous zinc acetate solution is added into the container stored with the specimen, dimethyl-p-phenylene diamine solution of a coloring agent is added into a storage content containing the absorption liquid, a ferric chloride solution is added followed thereto, a supernatant absorption liquid is obtained by a centrifugal separator, an absorbance of the supernatant absorption liquid is measured by a spectrophotometer, and a concentration is calculated using a standard analytical curve prepared preliminarily.
