PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a roll type medium supporting mechanism in simple constitution to support core members different in diameter of a roll type medium and easy to handle and a recording device furnished with the roll type medium supporting mechanism. SOLUTION: This roll type medium supporting mechanism is furnished with a plurality of expanding opening contact members 230 axially one end sides of which are supported on a supporting member 210 and the other end sides of which make contact with an inner peripheral surface of a hollow shaft part of the roll type medium. Additionally, the expanding opening contact members are constituted free to expand and open in the roll diameter direction around the axially supporting part of the supporting member as their center in correspondence with an inner diameter of the hollow shaft part of the roll type medium. Consequently, it is possible to facilitate handling in simple constitution only by displacing the expanding opening contact member without corresponding to the core members different in diameter by a separate part.
