A mobile communication terminal for providing a shortcut icon on an idle screen and a method thereof are provided to enable a user to access a corresponding shortcut icon easily and to use a corresponding application more rapidly by selecting applications, corresponding to icons, on an idle screen. A mobile communication terminal for providing a shortcut icon on an idle screen comprises a shortcut driving unit(220), a shortcut registering unit(230), a shortcut executing unit(240) and a database(250). The shortcut driving unit(220) drives a shortcut menu according to the first inputting operation. The shortcut registering unit(230) matches a set icon in the driven shortcut menu with an application and registers the icon as a shortcut icon. The shortcut executing unit(240) executes a mode for selecting the shortcut icon registered on an idle screen according to the second inputting operation, and executes a corresponding application if a user selects the shortcut icon. The database(250) stores and manages icons to be used in the driven shortcut menu. |
