PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk recording/reproducing apparatus compatible with a plurality of types of formats having common physical characteristics and partially different disk formats. SOLUTION: In the optical disk recording/reproducing apparatus (optical disk drive) 10, for example, in accordance with the formats of two types of disks 101 having common physical characteristics and different modulation rules, an LSI (driving circuit) 100 for the optical disk recording/reproducing apparatus is provided with a modulation/demodulation circuit ( 106, 108) for a first format, a modulation/demodulation circuit (107, 109) for a second format, and a modulation rule determining circuit 110. On the basis of setting of the modulation rule determining circuit 110 during manufacturing or the like, the apparatus is configured to operate with one of the two types of formats and one of the corresponding modulation/demodulation circuit, or to operate by switching them according to a medium.
