PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning method by which an object, which is to be cleaned and to which a water-soluble stain such as water-soluble machining oil is stuck, can be cleaned by one kind of a cleaning agent and the amount of waste water to be discharged can be reduced even when water is accompanied by the water-soluble stain and to provide the cleaning agent usable repeatedly as the cleaning agent to be used in the cleaning method without arousing an environmental trouble such as depletion of the ozone layer. SOLUTION: The cleaning method comprises a step (A step) of immersing the object to be cleaned in the cleaning agent and cleaning the immersed object to be cleaned when the water-soluble stain-stuck object to be cleaned is cleaned and a step (B step) of separating the water accompanied by the water-soluble stain from the cleaning agent used at the A step by a specific gravity difference. A cleaning agent composition contains 80-20 wt.% hydrocarbon (a) having 130-350°C boiling point, 20-80 wt.% polar organic compound (b) which has 130-350°C boiling point and is soluble slightly in water, and the water (c) which is 80-100% of the saturated water content of the cleaning agent composition and is 0.05-3.0 pts.wt. on the basis of 100 pts.wt. of the total of the hydrocarbon (a) and the polar organic compound (b).
