<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving method of a plasma display panel capable of improving dark contrast without causing erroneous discharge. <P>SOLUTION: When discharge is caused in a discharge cell only in the address erasure stroke of any one sub-field within each of the sub-fields in a unit display period so as to shift the discharge cell to an extinction cell state, in the top sub-field, the address writing stroke to set the discharge cell to a light emission cell state by causing the discharge in the discharge cell is executed prior to such address erasure stroke.
