PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve fuel efficiency by reducing the rolling resistance of a tire while suppressing the reduction of cut resistance required as the rubber for a sidewall. SOLUTION: The rubber composition for the tire sidewall is obtained by compounding 5-70 pts.wt. silica having 80-150 m<SP>2</SP>/g CTAB specific surface area, and≥1.3 ratio DBP/CTAB of DBP oil absorption (cm<SP>3</SP>/100 g) to the CTAB (m<SP>2</SP>/g), and satisfying the relation:Δthermogravimetric decreasing rate (%)≥0.0283×CTAB specific surface area +0.6 (1), betweenΔthermogravimetric decreasing rate(%) which is a value obtained by subtracting the decreasing rate at 150°C from the decreasing rate at 1,000°C in the thermogravimetric measurement, and the CTAB (m<SP>2</SP>/g), and 0-70 pts.wt. carbon black with 100 pts.wt. diene rubber so that the weight ratio of the silica/carbon black may be (0.2/1)-(1/0), and further compounding 2-25 pts.wt. coupling agent based on 100 pts.wt. silica.
