PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a television set which is capable of automatically adjusting sizes, arrangement, and display modes of divided pictures so that not only a viewer who operates a multi-picture display function to view new program images but also viewers having viewed program images can view the most suitable images with respect to various new images in the case that this viewer is at a prescribed or shorter distance from the television set. SOLUTION: A television set 100 provided with the multi-picture display function includes an image classification determination part 121 for determining a classification of images to be displayed newly and a determination part 123 for determining whether an execution indication operation of multi-picture display processing has been performed by a viewer being at a short distance from the television set 100 or not. A multi-picture display control part 122a performs multi-picture display control on the basis of the classification of images determined by the image classification determination part 121 and a determination result of the determination part 123.
