A particulate filter (34) is divided into predetermined numbers of heating zones. The particulate filter is arranged within an outer shell. An outer mat is interposed between particulate filter and outer shell connected with an electrical connector. The electrical connector has pins connected with insulated Teflon(RTM: not defined) wire. Printed circuit connections extend along outer surface of particulate filter from electrical connector to the heating zones. The printed circuit connections are electrically connected with pads abutted to each segment of conducting mesh. The conducting mesh material is Grafoil(RTM: not defined). Each conducting mesh segment is surrounded with insulating material e.g. alumina matches the printed circuit connections.
