A trap hauling apparatus reduces the manual lifting requirements while hauli ng onboard lobster or crab traps and the like. The apparatus comprises a mounting eleme nt for mounting the apparatus to a fishing vessel, a slide mechanism engaged with and slidab le along the mounting element, a hauling device mounted to a proximal end of the slide mechanism for retracting trap line, a boom mounted to a distal end of the slide mechanism for guiding the trap line as it is retracted by the hauling device, and a retracting element secured at opposing ends thereof to the mounting element and the proximal end of the slide mechanism. The retracting element may be a hydraulic cylinder.
