<p>Novel compounds are described that have a negative charge at high pH and are readily hydrolysable at low pH to have a positive charge. The negatively charged molecules have a low interaction rate in the body whereas the positively charged molecules have a high interaction profile. The compounds are useful as drug and gene delivery carriers in the body.</p>
