PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel strip cooling apparatus capable of uniformly cooling a steel strip in its width direction while maintaining the high cooling rate. SOLUTION: In the steel strip cooling apparatus 2 for cooling a traveling steel strip 12 by arranging projecting nozzles 4 on the surface of a cooling box 3 and jetting a refrigerant from the projecting nozzles 4, when the projecting nozzles 4 in each row are arrayed in the steel strip advancing direction in a deviated manner by a predetermined spacing P<SB>1</SB>, the deviation amount is set in a range of (P<SB>2</SB>-D)/2<P<SB>1</SB><P<SB>2</SB>(1-1/N<SB>2</SB>)/2, where P<SB>2</SB>denotes the pitch of the projecting nozzles in the width direction of the steel strip; D denotes the diameter of the projecting nozzle, and N<SB>2</SB>denotes the number of rows of the projecting nozzles in the steel strip advancing direction of the cooling box.
