A method and a system for deleting a short message, transmitted to a called terminal, using a calling terminal are provided to prevent a receiver from having the trouble of deleting an erroneously received short message in person by enabling a user to delete a wrongly delivered short message using his mobile terminal when the user selects or inputs a wrong destination number by mistake. When a short message is sent to a wrong receiver by mistake, the user of a calling mobile terminal makes a deletion request message containing a priority indicator and sends it to the called mobile terminal which has received the erroneously delivered short message(S250,S260). The called mobile terminal judges whether the receiver consents to the deletion request according to the deletion request message(S270). If the receiver consents to the deletion request, the called mobile terminal confirms whether a short message having the same identifier as the deletion request message exists in its message box(S280). If so, the called mobile terminal deletes the short message(S290).
