A method for the assessment of the arterial sclerosis in an experiment comprises the gamma irradiation of biological tissue, the preparation of histological and semifine sections, the measurement of wall thickness and inside diameter of blood vessels, and the calculation of a vascular index as a ratio between wall thickness and inside diameter of the vessel. The sclerosis is established by the verifying of vascular index relative to its control value.
