PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering control device which can maintain stable steering characteristics. SOLUTION: A target locus determining part 12b determines a target locus, which becomes a travelling target of a vehicle, based on a vehicle speed V and a steering angleθ<SB>H</SB>of a steering wheel 2. The vehicle speed V is obtained from a vehicle-speed sensor 13, and the steering angleθ<SB>H</SB>of the steering wheel 2 is obtained from a steering angle sensor 3. A real locus computing part 12d calculates a radius R of curvature of a real locus of the actual travelling of the vehicle based on the information on a position received by a GPS receiving part 14, and supplies the radius R of curvature to a variable-gear-ratio unit control part 12c. The variable-gear-ratio unit control part 12c compares a radius R<SB>0</SB>of curvature to the radius R of curvature. The radius R<SB>0</SB>of curvature is supplied from the target locus determining part 12b, and the radius R of curvature is supplied from the real locus computing part 12d. When the difference between the radius R<SB>0</SB>of curvature and the radius R of curvature is greater than or equal to a predetermined value, a transmission ratio of a variable gear ratio unit 4 is changed, and the difference between the radius R<SB>0</SB>of curvature and the radius R of curvature is reduced.
