Even in the case that a plurality of disc array devices are provided in a backup system in which operating system data are remotely copied, consistency of data is to be guaranteed. A remote copy initiation detecting unit (202) detects the initiation of a remote copy from an operating system to a backup system. When a slice state detecting unit (204) is instructed to determine a slice state in response to the initiation of the remote copy from the remote copy initiation detecting unit (202), a slice corresponding to either one of disc array devices (300-3, 300-4) is set to be an active state which is available for reading out data, while another slice corresponding to the other disc array device is set to be an invalid state which prohibits reading out data.
