PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection device which improves precision in detecting positional shift of an IC chip, and also detects the amount of a positional shift, and to provide a circuit board and an IC chip that are the subject of detection. SOLUTION: According to the detection device 1, when the IC chip 30 is mounted on the circuit board 20, a positional shift between a plurality of mounting pads 21a to 21j and a plurality of terminals 31a to 31j is detected using positional shift detecting pads 22a to 22d and 23a to 23d disposed around mounting pads. The detection device 1 has a detection unit 2 and a calculating unit 5. The detection unit 2 supplies an AC current flowing between the positional shift detecting pads 22a to 22d and 23a to 23d and terminals to be connected to the mounting pads to detect a capacitance between the detecting pads 22a to 22d and 23a to 23d and the mounting pads. Based on the capacitance detected by the detection unit 2, the calculating unit 5 detects a positional shift between the mounting pads and the terminals to be connected to the mounting pads, and also calculates an amount of the positional shift.
