PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting element in which damage to a light emitting layer is reduced when forming an electrode layer on the light emitting layer. SOLUTION: In the light emitting element including a first and a second electrode layers, and a light emitting layer held between the first and the second electrode layers on its both sides, the area of the surface of the second electrode layer on the side bordering on the light emitting layer is larger than that of the surface of the light emitting layer on the side bordering on the second electrode layer.
