A set-top box and a channel searching method using the same are provided to skip an unnecessary channel searching process, thereby efficiently shortening the channel searching time. At least one tuner selects and receives a broadcasting signal. A modulation storage unit(40) stores the broadcasting signal modulating types of previous effective channels with respect to the received broadcasting signal. A channel search unit(30) analyzes the channel of the received broadcasting signal by sequentially applying the broadcasting signal modulating types to the received broadcasting signal. When the analyzed channel is determined to be an effective channel, an effective channel determination unit(50) stores the broadcasting signal modulating type of the analyzed channel in the modulation storage unit(40).
