An automatic welding system for a vertical butt joint of a curved block using an electro gas welding method, that can weld a steel plate butt joint, of which an inclination angle continuously varies, automatically in one pass, and improves productivity, workability and welding quality, reduces working hour, and prevents safety accidents by automatically welding a curved surface part such as a hull shell, is provided. In an electro gas welding apparatus comprising an automatic welding carriage moved along traveling rails(100), a torch adjusting slide part connected to the carriage to move a welding torch vertically and horizontally and adjust a working angle, and a copper shoe pressurizing slide(500) connected to the torch adjusting slide part to pressurize a copper shoe, an automatic welding system for a vertical butt joint of a curved block using an electro gas welding method is characterized in that: the traveling rails are made of flexible thin metal sheets, and include rack gears formed at one ends thereof such that the rack gear engages with a pinion gear of the carriage, and guide blocks attached thereto, wherein the guide blocks having inclined contact surfaces formed on upper lower surfaces of both sides thereof and being made of an engineering plastic material such that the guide blocks are deformed in the same manner as the traveling rails according to elastic deformation of the traveling rails; and the torch adjusting slide part includes a back-and-forth moving slide(410) for moving the torch back and forth, and a proceeding angle directional slide(450) for rotating the torch in the proceeding direction to adjust a proceeding angle.
