<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of an image forming apparatus having a belt-like image carrier in that stress from rollers extending the belt-like image carrier deforms the image carrier or cracks the surface layer of the image carrier, which leads to a printed image defect. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a drive roller; a photoreceptor belt in the form of a belt-like image carrier, extended by a plurality of rollers including the drive roller and rotated by the drive roller; a charger for charging the surface of the photoreceptor belt; and an exposure device for forming an electrostatic latent image onto the photoreceptor belt based on image information; and developing units for rendering the electrostatic latent image on the photoreceptor belt visible. In the image forming apparatus, the photoreceptor belt is stopped during a standby period so that the latent image nonformation area of the photoreceptor belt comes to the position of the roller whose stress on the photoreceptor belt is greatest among the rollers. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
