PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a side material used for a clad material which is employed in a heat exchanger and excellent in productivity and corrosion resistance, whose side material member is easy to control its surface condition and flatness, and in which adhesion failure is hard to occur, to provide a method for manufacturing a clad material employed in a heat exchanger, and to provide a clad material employed in a heat exchanger. SOLUTION: In a method for manufacturing a side material used for a clad material, which is employed in a heat exchanger and consists of a core material and side materials forming one or more layers superimposed on one or both sides of the core material, at least one layer of the side materials is made of a metal having a constituent composition different from that of the core material. The method includes a melting step of melting a metal for side material, a casting step of casting the metal melted in the melting step to make an ingot for side material, and a slicing step of slicing the ingot to a predetermined thickness, which steps are performed in this order.
