PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transparent and high practical laminate which has high gas-barrier properties equivalent to those of a metal foil and is suitable for holding contents high in practicality and a method for producing the laminate. SOLUTION: In the transparent laminate suitable for holding contents, at least a gas-barrier coat layer is formed on a transparent plastic substrate. A coating agent containing at least one of a macromolecular compound having hydroxyl groups, a metal alkoxide and/or its hydrolyzate and/or its polymer as a component is applied, and the paint film is heated, dried, and subjected to water treatment, to form the gas-barrier coating layer.
