PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture quality controlling method that improves picture quality by use of a repair process and a compensation circuit, and to provide a flat panel display device using the same. SOLUTION: Charge characteristic compensation data for compensating charge characteristics of a link sub-pixel having a defective sub-pixel and a normal sub-pixel adjacent to the defective sub-pixel electrically connected in a display panel is determined, and first and second display surfaces different in brightness from each other are discriminated by supplying test data to the display panel to measure brightness of the display panel, and first compensation data for brightness compensation of the first display surface is determined, and the test data is modulated by the first compensation data, and the modulated test data is supplied to the display panel to determine second compensation data for correcting brightness of a boundary part including a part of the first display surface and a part of the second display surface, and adding compensation data of the first and second compensation data is calculated, and the charge characteristic compensation data and the added compensation data are stored in a memory, and video data of the link sub-pixel is adjusted by the charge characteristic compensation data, and video data of the first display surface and the boundary part is adjusted by the added compensation data.
