PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor such as a color copying machine that can enhance the quality of reproduced image such as a low contrast character like a character written in a pencil and a character on a thin color background. SOLUTION: An image area discrimination circuit 120 separates a black character edge area, a color character edge area, and a pattern area. A contrast discrimination circuit 130 detects a low contrast area. An image data processing circuit system 110 applies processing corresponding to its kind to each of separated image areas and applies color character edge area processing to an area discriminated to be a low contrast area by the contrast discrimination circuit 130 even in the case of an area discriminated to be a black character edge area through the image area separation. Thus, connection of lines of a low contrast character is smoothed so as to reproduce an image with less 'blurred sence'. |
