A mobile terminal and a profile setup method thereof are provided to prevent unnecessary profile data from being stored and easily download or update profile data by storing a USSD(Unstructured Supplementary Services Data) list to request profile data according to service providers and downloading necessary profile data only. A control part in a mobile terminal reads the MCC(Mobile Country Code) and MNC(Mobile Network Code) of a service provider from a SIM card and confirms whether a USSD code to request profile setup to the service provider exists in a USSD list stored in a memory part(S10,S12). In case the USSD code corresponding to the service provider exists, the control part transmits it to the service provider by wireless and requests the service provider to transmit profile data(S14). If profile data are received through a service network, the control part judges whether the received profile data have been already stored in the profile DB of the memory part(S16,S18). If not, the control part stores the received profile data together with the MCC and MNC of a service provider(S20).
