LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICES AND POLARIZING PLATE SETS USED THEREIN

An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) device and a polarizing plate set used therein are provided to widen a contrast field of view by restraining the leakage of light by a field of view by compensating a phase difference by a liquid crystal layer and a polarizing plate highly. A liquid crystal is sealed between a pair of transparent substrates parallel to each other. In a liquid crystal cell(30), the liquid crystal is arranged in an almost identical direction parallel to the substrate. A first polarizing plate(10) and a second polarizing plate(20) are arranged for the liquid crystal cell to be interposed between the first and second polarizing plates. An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) device performs display by changing the major axis direction of molecules of the liquid crystal in a surface parallel with the substrate by a change of voltages applied to the liquid crystal cell.
