The invention relates to an axially driven piston/cylinder unit, comprising a cylinder (2), a piston (3), which may be displaced back and forth between a first piston position, in which the cylinder volume (18), enclosed by the piston (3) and the cylinder (2), is at a maximum and a second piston position, in which said cylinder volume is at a minimum, in the axial direction of the cylinder (2), a fluid bearing between the piston (3) and the cylinder (2), which supports the axial movement of the piston (3) in the cylinder (2) and which defines a bearing surface (38) on the piston side enclosing said piston (2) over a part of the axial length of the piston (2) and a drive element (50), moving back and forth in the axial direction of the cylinder, or essentially parallel thereto, mechanically-connected to the piston (3) by means of a piston rod (4). The piston rod (4) is embodied such as to permit and compensate for a radial offset, or an inclination between the cylinder axis (X) and the longitudinal axis (Y), defining the movement direction of the drive element (50), characterised in that the piston rod (4) is provided with a first drive-side joint section (40), the piston rod (4) is also provided with a second piston-side joint section (42) and that the second piston-side joint section (42) is provided in the rear region of the piston (3), away from the piston crown (16).
