PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user who has been identified to know the cause of failure in personal identification or the cause of nonsmooth personal identification. SOLUTION: The cause (S4a) of the fact that biological information read by a biological information reading means is determined to be inadequate for collation with registered biological information (S2a), the cause (S10a) of the fact that the biological information determined to be inadequate for the collation has failed in collation with the registered biological information and the cause (S17a) of the fact that a time exceeding an already set time has been required for the processing of the collation are detected by a control part. When those causes are detected by the control part, the biological information read by the biological information reading means is displayed, and words showing the causes are displayed (S15a, S19a) to notify a user of the causes.
