The roll is used in a papermaking machine. It has a roll jacket (2) on an axle (1) with borings (3) forming a primary pattern. A structuring (7, 8) of the roll jacket produces a secondary pattern to support an element such as a screen guided over the jacket. The secondary pattern distributes the structuring non-uniformly over the surface of the roll jacket.
