PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize the retaining force of a recording medium with a pair of transport rollers in a standby state. SOLUTION: The pair of the transport rollers 40 can take a transport state transporting a sheet 2 while unwinding the sheet from a winding section 2a wound in a roll state and the standby state holding the sheet 2 between the rollers instead of transporting the sheet 2. The transport rollers 40 are driven with a DC servo motor 54 controlled by a controller 20. The controller 20 controls a proportional gain coefficient being a parameter of the DC servo motor 54 so that the retaining force of the sheet 2 by the transport rollers 40 in the standby state is optimized based on the basis of the width and thickness of the sheet 2 loaded in a sheet supply section 4 and the winding diameter of the winding section 2a.
