946,124. Positive clutches. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. Jan. 4, 1961 [Jan. 14, 1960], No. 367/61. Addition to 926,311. Heading F2C. The balk-ring friction synchronizing cone 6 of the parent Specification, comprising radially inwardly projecting oblique lugs g engaging with lost-motion in broad slots in the hub of a pinion 2, the lugs and slots having bevelled surfaces h<SP>1</SP>, h at their edges balking movement of an axially slidable ratio establishing sleeve 5 until synchronism is achieved, is modified by the provision of a second synchronizing cone 7 between the first synchronizing cone and the axially fixed hub 4 of the ratio establishing sleeve. On initial leftwards sliding of the ratio establishing sleeve 5 to engage clutch teeth 20, 21 and prior to synchronism, the frusto-conical surface c on the sleeve engages the corresponding surface on the first synchronizing ring 6, which is slidden to engage its bevelled surfaces h<SP>1</SP> on the lugs g with the corresponding surfaces h on the hub of the pinion 2. The cam-like interaction between thebevelled surfaces h, h<SP>1</SP> forces the first synchronizing cone 6 rightwards against the action of the ratio establishing sleeve, and thus pushes the second synchronizing cone 7 rightwards into frictional engagement with the hub 4 of the ratio establishing sleeve. On synchronism, the oblique lugs g of the first synchronizing ring move to a central position with respect to the slots in the hub of the pinion 2, and the movement leftwards of the ratio establishing sleeve can be completed. A spring 9 fast at one end in the hub of the pinion 2 engages a ridge in the inner side of the first synchronizing cone, to bias it in the neutral condition to a position free of the second synchronizing cone 7. |
