An inverter protecting circuit is provided to prevent an inverter from being damaged by an excessive current by simultaneously turning on series-connected IGBT(Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors), even when an erroneous reference voltage is applied on a switching driver. An inverter protecting circuit includes a rectifier(20), a switch unit, switching drivers(40,50) and an SMPS(Switching Mode Power Supply)(60). The rectifier receives an AC voltage and generates a DC voltage. The switch unit includes plural switches, which are coupled with output terminals of the rectifier. The switching drivers output driving signals for driving the switches. The SMPS receives the AC voltage and applies reference voltages to a photo coupler input terminal and a photo coupler output terminal, respectively. The photo coupler output terminal is connected to an output terminal of the rectifier and a cathode of a Zener diode, which has a grounded anode.
