An apparatus and a method for transceiving time information in a mobile communication system are provided to transceive the time information periodically by using an idle frame or the stealing flag of a normal burst included in a BCCH(Broadcast Control Channel) without a dedicated channel in an idle state, thereby maintaining correct time information without being overheaded to a network. A method for calculating a current time in a mobile communication system comprises the following steps of: receiving time information transmitted from a base station(840); obtaining parameters necessary for time calculation and date information from the received time information; calculating time until a complete hyper frame structure starts after a reference time from a frame number when the reference time starts by using the parameters(850); calculating time from the start of the complete hyper frame structure to the end(855); calculating an elapsed time from the end of the complete hyper frame structure to a current time(860); adding the time until the complete hyper frame structure starts from the reference time, the time from the start of the complete hyper frame structure to the end, and the elapsed time from the end of the complete hyper frame structure to the current time; and calculating the current time by using the calculated elapsed time and the date information(865,870).
