<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illuminator which has a plurality of light sources and whose upsizing can be suppressed. <P>SOLUTION: The illuminator 100 includes a first light source device 10, a second light source device 20, a third light source device 30, a fourth light source device 40, a light composition optical system 50 which puts together pieces of lighting luminous flux from the first light source device 10 to the fourth light source device 40 and projects lighting luminous flux having an optical axis parallel to a first optical axis 10ax as its center axis, and an integrator optical system 700. The first light source device 10 to the fourth light source device 40 are so arranged that a second virtual plane V<SB>2</SB>orthogonal to a second optical axis 20ax, a third virtual plane V<SB>3</SB>orthogonal to a third optical axis 30ax and a fourth virtual plane V<SB>4</SB>orthogonal to a fourth optical axis 40ax are respectively orthogonal to a first virtual plane V<SB>1</SB>orthogonal to the first optical axis 10ax, and the second virtual plane V<SB>2</SB>and third virtual plane V<SB>3</SB>are parallel to each other. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
